What is in your mineral makeup - choosing a pure mineral foundation

One of the many benefits of mineral makeup - apart from the amazing, light look and feel - is the idea that they are NATURAL. Whilst there are some fabulous pure mineral makeups on the market - there are loads that are not natural and contain inexpensive fillers and artifical ingredients for a host of reasons.
To those with sensitive skin - finding a mineral makeup that works can be a mission - ask us for a sample to make sure ECO is perfect for your skin.
Below we look at the pure minerals contained in ECO minerals pure mineral foundation and a break down of chemical, unsafe and irritating ingredients.

  • ECO minerals Perfection foundation ingredients: Mica, Zinc Oxide - May Contain (depending on colour) Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Ultramarines
  • ECO minerals Flawless foundation ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, Mica - May Contain (depending on colour) Kaolin, Iron Oxides, Ultarmarine Blue, Tin Oxide

  1. Bismuth Oxychloride - A by-product of lead refining used to achieve a satin radiance to the skin. Widely known to be a skin irritant, causing many to suffer from burning and breakouts.
  2. Boron Nitride - A mineral known for its high adhesion quality and a light texture. Can cause an itchy rash with prolonged usage.
  3. Dimethicone - Unmodified silicones which are considered a good protectant but may cause irritation to sensitive skin due to its occlusion nature.
  4. Mica - A transparent mineral which is mined from the earth in thin sheets to give powder sparkle and shine. Supposedly low irritation but may aggravate acne and rosacea conditions for some. (We recommend ECO minerals Flawless Foundation range for a low mica alterative.)
  5. Magnesium Stearate - This mineral is known for its matte finish appearance and high adhesion quality but has been associated with irritation in some with sensitive skin.
  6. Silica - A mineral used to add a silky feel to the product and provide oil control. Not usually listed as an irritant, but has caused breakouts for some.
  7. Talc - A cheap filler & suspected carcinogen that tends to be drying and can cause pores to clog and breakouts for certain skin types.
  8. Zea Mays - Technical name for corn starch. Very translucent with good absorbency & silky texture used in mineral veil. Can be irritating. Often used in Mineral Makeup forumlations to make them Certified Organic (as corn can be certified – and minerals can not).
